Welcome

Welcome to this growing collection of Peaceful Pictures by John-David Biggs.

They are the result of a natural response to living in the Kent countryside, where every day nature and light weave a fresh dance of shape and colour. For some time now I've been sending one of these images every week to friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

Increasingly I'm being asked for particular kinds of pictures, whether flowers, sunsets, meadows, seascapes, or pictures in black and white.

So here you will find the full collection, being added to almost every day.

You may print or forward any of these images for your personal use free of charge, and if you wish to buy a high resolution file or print just follow the appropriate menus.

Enjoy!

The Brenchley Oak

When I came to live in Brenchley, one of my priorities was to find a good local pub. After all, Kent is renowned for its real ale. One of my new neighbours quickly pointed me to the Half Way House, nestling quietly in the countryside between the villages of Brenchley and Horsemonden.

Certainly the ales are superb, both in quantity and quality, which is just as well as I soon realized I wished to devote much time to the study of the superb oak in the field opposite. A year and some 4,000 pictures yielded a collection of 32 images, first exhibited in August of 2007, which some folk have said is more a portrait of the sky than the tree. All the same, the tree commands the huge meadow in a quiet and peaceful way, and gives scale to the extraordinary clouds that roll by, as well as being a stately presence amongst the hubub and excitement of the recent Tour de France.

The Brenchley Oak is believed to be some 350 years old, and certainly looks like it has a good few hundred years to go before entering its dying phase.
